ELIAS MOVEMENT PROJECT
The Elias Movement Project was founded in 2017 by professional contemporary dancer and improvisational artist Hannah Goldberg. EMP's aim is to increase the accessibility and visibility of professional contemporary dance in the community of London, ON and the surrounding area. Through ongoing classes, workshops, community events, and performances, EMP wants to highlight the ability of dance, in any form, to inspire the community, connect the body and mind, build interpersonal relationships, and aid in personal growth and development.
The Elias Movement Project is passionate about making the arts, and especially dance, more accessible to the community. We truly believe that anyone, at any age, and from any background can dance, and we feel that engaging in movement will lead to a more joyful and fulfilled life. Our hope is to offer workshops in dance and movement that are available to everyone, no matter your age or previous dance experience. Classes will typically involve improvisational exercises which will ask the participants to think critically, use their breath, become more aware of their body and their relationship to the space, and to focus on specific tasks.
The Elias Movement Project also hopes to bring more professional contemporary dance performance events to the city of London, and specifically into non-traditional performance venues. We believe that by taking dance out of the formal theatre setting and putting it into the heart of the community, the public will be more receptive and open to watching and learning about contemporary dance. Exciting things are currently in development, including a new project entitled "PDA: Public Displays of Art". Be sure to follow our Facebook page and our website for updates on this and upcoming workshops/classes.
